Last month, we celebrated our first Language Week at Colegio San José! This event was led by the Primary and High School Language Arts Department and Bilingualism Coordination Office.

During this week, Cycle I, II and III students participated in different activities where they had the opportunity to practice their communication skills. We had our first CSJB Master Chef where students created their own healthy recipes, which helped them develop cooperative skills. Also, students participated in a Talent Show where they recited poems, said tongue twisters and jokes, and sang beautiful songs. Something the students enjoyed a lot was their Favorite Movie Character Day; they got dressed as their favorite movie characters and explained character traits and the reason why they had picked them. Last but not least, students participated in our first CSJB Spelling Bee Contest where a unique group of students battle for being the best speller.

Students and teachers of Cycle IV and Semestralización participated in different cultural activities during this week! We discovered new talents and voices in our karaoke event; students took on the role of authors and characters from both classical and contemporary literature during the Author’s Day; we tried new dishes, spoke French and learned about different English-speaking countries and their culture during the Anglophone Day; and finally, we delighted ourselves with an astonishing Speech Contest where students practiced informative and persuasive skills.

In addition to this, for our first CSJB Speech Contest, we were honored to have Fabián Padilla De La Cerda, Bilingualism Coordinator at I.E.D Jorge Nicolás Abello, awarded Premio Compartir Al Maestro for designing and implementing the first bilingualism project in a public School.

Without a doubt, promoting these activities at our school help foster intercultural connections, interest in reading and the development of language skills.
